Incheon City Promotes 'Bupyeong-gu Military Base Area Revitalization Master Plan' Project
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Incheon City is promoting a basic planning project for the revitalization of the area surrounding the military base in Bupyeong-gu.
The city announced on the 9th that it will start a project next month to establish a comprehensive development strategy aimed at improving the deteriorated residential environment around the military base and reorganizing and improving various unreasonable restrictions.
The project is part of the "Revitalization of the Old Downtown Area linked to the Integration and Relocation of Military Bases" and targets approximately 1.3 million square meters in the San-gok, Bupyeong, Bugae, and Ilsin-dong areas of Bupyeong-gu.
Focusing on areas where military base integration and relocation are being promoted?98 million square meters in Bugae and Ilsin-dong, 240,000 square meters in San-gok-dong (3rd Supply Corps), and 70,000 square meters in Bupyeong and Ilsin-dong (military railway)?the project will establish a comprehensive development strategy to derive specific development, maintenance, and management plans and investigate and analyze the feasibility of project realization.
Incheon City and the Ministry of National Defense signed a memorandum of understanding in January last year to revitalize the old downtown area and secure urban space in connection with the unit reorganization and relocation project under defense reform, and are currently in consultation.
However, residents of Bugae and Ilsin-dong, where the military bases are being integrated, have long complained about inconveniences caused by military facilities and are opposing the integration and relocation, demanding solutions to the increased inconveniences.
San-gok-dong, where the 3rd Supply Corps and other military units are relocating, is requesting a nature-friendly development plan and regional revitalization measures linked to surrounding areas such as the military railway and Jang-go-gae Road (second section, 1,380 meters).
