"Struggling Due to Corona" Former Boxing Champion Arrested for Breaking District Council Entrance Door
[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kang Joo-hee] A man in his 50s, a former professional boxing world champion, was arrested by the police for damaging the entrance door of the Gyeyang District Council in Incheon.
The Gyeyang Police Station in Incheon announced on the 9th that they had booked Mr. A (59), a former International Boxing Federation (IBF) flyweight world champion, without detention on charges of damaging public property and trespassing.
Mr. A is accused of unlawfully entering the Gyeyang District Council building in Jakjeon-dong, Gyeyang-gu, Incheon, at around 8:10 p.m. on the 6th, and breaking the council’s glass door using a tree planter in front of the council.
Mr. A was operating a monkey performance venue in Buan, Jeonbuk, but after facing business difficulties due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he committed the crime after drinking alcohol.
He reportedly told the police, "I had to close the performance venue due to COVID-19, making it difficult to make a living, but the government is not providing support."
