Decision on Participation in 'Proportional Alliance Party' to Be Made by All-Member Vote... Justice Party Maintains Stance Against Participation
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] The Democratic Party of Korea decided on the 8th to determine participation in the 'Proportional Representation Coalition Party' through a vote by all party members.
Kang Hoon-sik, the senior spokesperson for the Democratic Party, stated at a briefing held immediately after the Supreme Council meeting in the afternoon, "We decided to put the participation in the Proportional Representation Coalition Party to a vote by all party members and to make a decision through gathering opinions from party members."
He added, "You can understand that this decision was made due to the gravity and seriousness of the matter," and "The vote will take place next week, and the voting questions and platform will also be decided within next week."
When asked by reporters whether there was a heated debate within the Supreme Council, Senior Spokesperson Kang replied, "It would be more accurate to say there was a discussion. Since the matter is serious and important, it is true that there were naturally some differing opinions," and "Considering the gravity of the issue, this decision was made."
Detailed matters related to the vote will be decided later through the Supreme Council's resolution. Currently, the voting method is likely to be mobile-based.
Even if the conclusion to participate in the Proportional Representation Coalition Party is reached through the vote by all party members, there are many hurdles to overcome. In particular, the Justice Party, which firmly opposes, is considered the biggest challenge for the Democratic Party.
On the same day, the Justice Party unanimously resolved at the National Committee meeting to reject participation in the Proportional Representation Coalition Party. In their resolution, the Justice Party clearly opposed, stating, "If a satellite party for proportional representation initiated by the ruling party is created, it will lead to politics full of foul play and cheating, turning the people away and ultimately resulting in lower voter turnout."
