President Moon Jae-in Appoints New Commissioner of the Korea Coast Guard... "The Right Person to Accelerate Coast Guard Reform"
[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Jeong-min] Kim Hong-hee, Commissioner of the Namhae Regional Maritime Police Agency, has been appointed as the new Commissioner of the Korea Coast Guard.
Blue House spokesperson Kang Min-seok announced on the afternoon of the 4th, "President Moon Jae-in is scheduled to appoint Kim Hong-hee, Commissioner of the Namhae Regional Maritime Police Agency, as the Commissioner of the Korea Coast Guard."

Spokesperson Kang explained, "Kim Hong-hee, the new Commissioner of the Korea Coast Guard, is the first Commissioner from the Coast Guard since the enforcement of the Maritime Police Act in February this year. After serving as a naval officer, he has 27 years of experience in various positions within the Coast Guard, including maritime safety, security, and investigation, and holds a Ph.D. in maritime law, demonstrating extensive field experience and expertise in maritime security."
Spokesperson Kang added, "He is expected to be the right person to swiftly advance the reform of the Coast Guard following the enforcement of the Maritime Police Act, as well as to protect our safe seas."
Meanwhile, Commissioner Kim graduated from Busan High School, majored in Fisheries at Busan National University of Fisheries, earned a master's degree in law from East China University of Political Science and Law, and a Ph.D. in maritime law from Inha University. He joined the police as a candidate in the 42nd class of the Police Cadet Academy.

He served as Director of the Coast Guard Security Bureau, Director of the Coast Guard Equipment and Technology Bureau, and Planning Officer of the Korea Coast Guard before being appointed as Commissioner of the Korea Coast Guard.
