[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyewon] Sohn Kyung-shik, Chairman of the Korea Employers Federation, and Moon Sung-hyun, Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Economic, Social and Labor Affairs, agreed on the 2nd that labor, management, and government should cooperate to overcome the crisis as the economy is deteriorating due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) situation.
According to the Korea Employers Federation on that day, Chairman Sohn expressed concern to Chairman Moon, who visited the Federation to congratulate him on his reappointment, saying, "The economy is very difficult recently due to the COVID-19 situation, and especially the industrial sites are being affected," adding, "Small and micro businesses are struggling a lot."
He then said, "The government is doing well to overcome the difficulties," and requested, "I hope the Economic, Social and Labor Council (government) will consider well so that companies can perform well once the COVID-19 situation is over."
In response, Chairman Moon congratulated Chairman Sohn and said, "Since the economy is difficult, there are many good news from the field (such as social agreements in the shipping industry)," adding, "Referring to the cases of labor-management overcoming during the foreign exchange crisis and the global financial crisis, labor, management, and government should cooperate to overcome the current crisis."
