Choo Mi-ae: "US Statement on 'Banning Chinese Entry for Political Reasons' Means Korea's Measures Are Objective"
[Asia Economy Reporters Lee Ji-eun and Won Dara] Justice Minister Choo Mi-ae explained that her radio remark that "the United States is banning Chinese entry for political reasons" was made "in the context of saying that Korea's measures were effective."
On the 2nd, during a parliamentary question session, Minister Choo responded to a question from Joo Ho-young, a member of the Future United Party, saying, "Before the regional spread on the broadcast, the international community had evaluated Korea's measures so far as very good, and the entry process measures were quite objective and effective. I think that expression came up in that context."
Earlier, on the 19th of last month, Minister Choo said in an interview on tbs radio's 'Kim Eo-jun's News Factory,' "In the case of the United States, they completely block entry of Chinese people and lead the situation into a highly political atmosphere ahead of the presidential election."
When Representative Joo asked if ignoring experts' advice and not banning Chinese entry was a more political decision, she said, "My point was that starting from February 4th, measures were taken against Hubei Province, and entry restrictions were imposed on passports issued by Hubei Province, China, and that these phased measures were objectively evaluated positively abroad."
