Ministry of Industry Confirms the '5th Basic Plan for Collective Energy Supply'
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The government announced on the 1st that it has finalized and announced the "5th Basic Plan for Collective Energy Supply," which includes measures such as replacing combined heat and power plants using outdated facilities.
First, it will promote the supply of clean distributed energy by replacing combined heat and power plants that use outdated facilities or bunker C oil.
Safety management standards for heat transport pipes will be legislated and on-site inspections conducted to establish a double-check system and strengthen safety.
Regional business briefings will be held to increase acceptance, and consumer convenience will be improved through expanded remote meter reading and replacement of outdated meters.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy expects that by steadily implementing the five-year basic plan, energy consumption can be saved by 36.1 million TOE compared to alternative production methods.
It is projected that greenhouse gas emissions will be reduced by 102.21 million tons and air pollutants by 311,000 tons respectively.
The ministry established the plan through policy research services, operation of expert task forces (TF), consultations with related ministries and agencies, public hearings, and industry meetings since September 2018.
