Shared Bicycles to Run Again in Suwon Starting June
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Starting as early as June, 'unmanned rental shared bicycles' will run again in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province. This marks the resumption after a 9-month suspension since the end of September last year.
On the 28th, Suwon City announced that it signed a written Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the 'Suwon-type Unmanned Rental Bicycle Project Business Partnership' with KT and Omni System, agreeing to actively cooperate in promoting the project.
The unmanned rental bicycle system does not require bicycle racks or unmanned information guidance systems. Using a smartphone, users can easily rent and return GPS-equipped bicycles at bicycle parking spaces located throughout Suwon City.
The city plans to pilot operate 1,000 unmanned rental bicycles starting in June and add 2,000 more in the second half of the year.
According to the written MOU signed that day, Suwon City will expand the infrastructure necessary for the unmanned rental bicycle project, such as bicycle parking lots and dedicated roads, and actively promote the project to ensure its successful establishment.
KT will develop wireless communication services, locking devices, and the unmanned rental bicycle platform. Omni System will oversee the overall operation of the unmanned rental bicycle project and handle bicycle maintenance and redistribution tasks.
With the participation of KT, which possesses advanced IoT (Internet of Things) and 5G technology, and Omni System, a company specializing in integrated control systems, the project can secure technological capability and stability.
The city, KT, and Omni System will discuss detailed operational plans, including fare calculation.
