Suncheon City Temporarily Suspends Intercity Bus Service Between Suncheon and Daegu
Intensive Management of Passengers and Vehicles from Daegu to Prevent COVID-19 Infection
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do announced on the 26th that it will temporarily suspend intercity bus services between Suncheon and Daegu through consultations with related ministries and transportation companies, following the escalation of the COVID-19 crisis alert level to ‘serious’.
The city is intensively managing passengers and vehicles of express and intercity buses operating between Daegu and Suncheon, as a large number of COVID-19 confirmed cases have occurred in Daegu. Fever checks are being conducted one-on-one for passengers on express and intercity buses departing from Daegu, and through consultations with related ministries and transportation companies, the suspension of intercity bus services has been decided, with discussions ongoing regarding the suspension of express bus services as well.
The express bus from Daegu to Suncheon (Hanil Express) operates 4 times daily, and the intercity bus (Gyeongjeon Passenger Transport) operates 7 times daily. Before the COVID-19 situation, 50 to 60 passengers boarded on weekdays and up to 150 on weekends, but recently, the number of passengers has sharply decreased to around 10 per day.

A Suncheon city official stated, “For the safety of citizens, we have decided to suspend intercity bus services in consultation with related agencies and transportation companies,” adding, “We are continuing discussions on suspending express bus services and are doing our best in quarantine measures such as disinfecting the passenger car terminal and conducting fever checks on passengers to prevent the local spread of COVID-19.”
