30s Arrested for Posting False Article on Additional COVID-19 Cases
[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Seulgi Kim] A man in his 30s who posted fake news online claiming that additional confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) had occurred was arrested.
On the 25th, the Cyber Investigation Unit of the Jeonbuk Provincial Police Agency announced that they had booked a man in his 30s, identified as A, without detention on charges of obstruction of business.
A is suspected of posting false information earlier this month on an internet cafe, stating that "additional confirmed cases have occurred in the Jeonbuk area."
A reportedly stated, "I posted the message on the cafe believing it to be true based on information I heard from an acquaintance."
The police began an investigation after monitoring the internet cafe and noticing the false post.

According to a police official, "Recently, fake news related to COVID-19 has been spreading online, and while monitoring internet cafes, we discovered the post. We plan to conduct further investigation on A to determine the exact circumstances of the crime."
