Songpa-gu Provides Cleaning and Counseling Support for Households with Hoarding Disorder
Support for Cleaning, Organizing, and Disinfecting Inside and Outside Homes of 10 Households... Accompanied by Psychological Therapy
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Songpa-gu (Mayor Park Seong-su) provides cleaning support for socially isolated households living in poor conditions.
Vulnerable groups with hoarding disorder or mobility difficulties often accumulate various items inside and outside their homes regardless of use, causing difficulties in daily life. If neglected for a long time, this can lead to fires, bad odors, and pests, and recently has also caused conflicts with neighbors.
Accordingly, Songpa-gu is conducting the "Socially Isolated Household Cleaning and Organizing Support Project" to help vulnerable groups live in a comfortable environment. Last year, the project improved the living conditions of a total of 17 households, including those with hoarding disorder, elderly living alone, and people with disabilities.
This year, the district selected the "Socially Isolated Household Cleaning and Organizing Support Project" through the resident participation budget contest and is investing a budget of 18 million won.
They plan to identify and support 10 households among basic livelihood security recipients and near-poverty groups who need cleaning and organizing due to hoarding disorder or physical and mental difficulties.
Through professional companies, comprehensive services such as waste disposal, cleaning, wallpapering, flooring, disinfection, and organizing storage will be provided.
Additionally, with the consent of the recipients if necessary, the district will connect them to the Songpa-gu Mental Health Center to provide psychological treatment concurrently.
Even after the cleaning and organizing service support, continuous organizing and storage education and follow-up monitoring will be conducted to help recipients maintain a clean environment on their own.
Songpa-gu plans to intensively identify households with hoarding disorder and socially isolated vulnerable households in need of help until March 20.
After identifying vulnerable households through public-private networks such as community service centers, neighborhood leaders, health clinics, and social welfare organizations, support recipients will be selected through home visits, consultations, and case meetings. Residents wishing to apply can contact their local community service center.
Park Seong-su, Mayor of Songpa-gu, stated, "We will continue to identify households in need by joining forces with various organizations," and added, "We will pay more attention to building a dense welfare safety net so that everyone can live a healthy life as a member of the community."
