Earlier, on the 21st, the Seoul Metropolitan Government banned rallies in Seoul city areas including Gwanghwamun Square due to concerns over the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19). Despite the police announcing plans for legal action, Beomtubon held rallies for two consecutive days, including the previous day.
Pastor Jeon Gwang-hoon told participants that day, "The reason you overcame the oppression of Moon Jae-in and Park Won-soon and came to the rally is because the Lord is praying for you," and claimed, "Those of you who came to the Gwanghwamun worship are true Christians. Even the illnesses you had will be cured."
He continued, "Is there anyone among you infected with the virus? Then come to the worship next week. The Lord will heal everyone," adding, "Even if He does not heal you, it is okay. Our destination is heaven, and we are those who have overcome death."
During the rally, there was also talk about Pastor Jeon's detention hearing scheduled for the 24th.
Pastor Jeon said, "Is the statement 'The free right-wing should unite around Hwang Kyo-ahn' a violation of election law?" and emphasized, "Their purpose in trying to detain me is to prevent the Gwanghwamun rally."
Participants repeatedly shouted "Amen" to every statement made on stage. Due to concerns about COVID-19 infection, participants wore masks that day.
When Pastor Jonathan, a member of Beomtubon, shouted on stage, "I command in the name of Jesus, Wuhan pneumonia, depart," the participants cheered loudly in unison.
Earlier, Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon held an emergency briefing on the 21st and announced, "To protect the elderly vulnerable to infectious diseases, the use of Seoul Plaza, Cheonggye Plaza, and Gwanghwamun Square, where many citizens gather, will be prohibited."
The Seoul Metropolitan Government explained that this was based on Article 49, Paragraph 1 of the Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Act, which allows restrictions on rallies in urban areas to prevent infectious diseases. Violations are subject to fines of up to 3 million won.
Despite this policy, when Beomtubon forcibly held a rally at Gwanghwamun Square the previous day, Jongno-gu filed a complaint with the Jongno Police Station, citing violation of the Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Act.
