50s Man Sentenced to Prison for Assaulting 119 Paramedic in Yuseong, Daejeon

On the 20th, according to the Yuseong Fire Station in Daejeon, the Daejeon District Court Criminal Division 6 sentenced A (55), who was indicted for violating the Act on Rescue and Emergency Medical Services for 119, to six months in prison with a two-year probation.
A was charged with assaulting paramedic B twice while intoxicated and unable to move in front of a commercial building in Bongmyeong-dong, Yuseong-gu, Daejeon, on November 20 last year, when B had arrived at the scene to transport him to the hospital.
Earlier, the Yuseong Fire Station reported that A had obstructed legitimate emergency medical activities and referred the case to the prosecution with a recommendation for indictment under the relevant law. The Act on Rescue and Emergency Medical Services for 119 stipulates that such offenders may be punished by imprisonment for up to five years or a fine of up to 50 million won.

A representative of the Yuseong Fire Station said, “Violence against 119 paramedics is a criminal act that destroys not only myself and my family but also the social safety net,” adding, “A change in social awareness is urgently needed.”
