Baek Ji-hoon "From the 3rd year, earning over 100 million won annually... After one game, I even suggested changing the refrigerator and TV"
[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Yeon-ju] Former national soccer player Baek Ji-hoon revealed his salary during his playing career.
On the 18th, Baek Ji-hoon appeared as a client on the JTBC entertainment program 'Walk Only the Money Path - Settlement Talk.'
Baek Ji-hoon shared that after retirement, he has been running the family eel restaurant and is considering opening a soccer school. He said, "I retired about five months ago. I traveled a bit during that time," and added, "I need to start my second life, but I didn't know what to do, so I appeared on the show."
Regarding his salary as a player, Baek Ji-hoon mentioned, "Actually, from my third year as a professional player until retirement, I earned a salary in the hundreds of millions of won," but also said, "However, I had no financial investment knowledge, so my parents managed it and I received an allowance."
Baek Ji-hoon also talked about additional bonuses beyond his high salary. He explained, "There are victory bonuses and goal bonuses. Victory bonuses are in the thousands," and added, "Since I had just transferred, I received a lot. I played for Suwon Samsung, and the victory bonus was five times higher than other teams."
He continued with a joke, saying, "We used to say, 'Let's win one game and buy a new TV,' or 'Let's buy a new refrigerator,'" which brought laughter.
Baek Ji-hoon revealed that his investment supports his parents running the eel restaurant. He said, "There are 25 tables and a spacious parking lot," and added, "It's very delicious. I received help from my aunt who runs an eel restaurant in Busan."
He is currently contemplating whether to continue the family business running the eel restaurant or to operate a soccer school. Then, a surprise phone call was made to Ahn Jung-hwan, who is active in various fields after retiring from his playing career.
Ahn Jung-hwan advised based on his experience running a soccer school, saying, "The desire to play soccer will grow stronger," and "Running a soccer school requires tremendous effort. You have to choose the children's future well and not think about money."
