Gyeongbok University announced on the 17th that it was selected as a certified university in the 'Internationalization Capability Certification System' (IEQAS) evaluation hosted by the Ministry of Education.
The Internationalization Capability Certification System is a government certification system for universities with excellent internationalization capabilities. It was introduced to present exemplary standards for university internationalization and institutionalize them to enhance the international credibility and competitiveness of higher education.
This evaluation was conducted through stages including quantitative indicator assessments such as illegal stay rate, dropout rate, and international students' language proficiency, qualitative indicator evaluations related to university internationalization efforts, and committee deliberations.
Gyeongbok University met all the essential indicators, core condition indicators, and internationalization support indicators to obtain the certification.
The certification period is from March this year to February 2022.
With this certification, information will be publicly disclosed overseas through diplomatic missions, and the university will receive benefits such as simplified visa issuance procedures, priority selection for government-sponsored scholarship programs (GKS), and various government support projects for international students.
Gyeongbok University started attracting foreign students by opening a Korean language course at the International Language Institute in 2018, and currently, about 170 international students are enrolled.
