Korean Party: "Moon Administration Buys Jobs with Taxes and Boasts as an Achievement"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] The Liberty Korea Party criticized the government for creating an illusion in employment indicators by counting jobs purchased with tax money.
Jeon Hee-kyung, spokesperson for the Liberty Korea Party, stated in a commentary on the 13th, "The fiscal job projects funded by taxpayers' money did not create new jobs but rather turned the job market into a zero-sum game between generations," criticizing the government.
Earlier, Statistics Korea announced on the 12th in its January employment trend report that the number of employed persons increased by 568,000 compared to the same month last year, marking the highest increase in five years and five months. However, the Liberty Korea Party pointed out, "Looking closely at the job details, this is again an illusion created by tax money," adding, "The number of employed persons aged 60 and over increased by 507,000 compared to last year, the largest increase since statistics began, and including the 62,000 increase in those in their 50s, the total increase in the 50s and 60s age groups was 569,000."
Spokesperson Jeon said, "Meanwhile, jobs for people in their 40s, the backbone of our society, have decreased for 51 consecutive months," and criticized, "This administration shamelessly created a situation where fathers and sons are competing for jobs."
He added, "If the Moon Jae-in administration intends to pour tax money just to fill the statistics with numbers showing job growth, it should timely disclose to the public how much tax money was spent on creating those jobs before announcing the increase," emphasizing, "Jobs are not created by the government using tax money, but are generated when companies needing workers and job seekers meet in the market."
