Sterilizers Previously Used in Hospitals Expanded to Multipurpose Facilities Like Department Stores
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] JW Pharmaceutical announced on the 11th that it is expanding the supply of its coronavirus disinfectant 'Relyon Virkon,' which was previously delivered mainly to medical institutions such as hospitals and public health centers, to multi-use facilities. This move comes amid growing concerns over the novel coronavirus infection for quarantine purposes.
JW Pharmaceutical recently supplied 2,000 units of this product to Shinsegae Department Store. On the 10th, all 11 branches nationwide temporarily closed and carried out extensive disinfection measures using this disinfectant. They plan to continue quarantine activities until the novel coronavirus situation is resolved. JW Pharmaceutical had previously provided this product to Hyundai Premium Outlet Songdo, which had temporarily closed. The company stated that it plans to expand supply to multi-use facilities such as department stores, large marts, hotels, and banks.
'Relyon Virkon' is effective against human coronaviruses genetically similar to the novel coronavirus, including Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), as well as animal coronaviruses. The company explained that it is the only disinfectant product in Korea certified to be effective against coronaviruses. In July of last year, it was approved by the National Institute of Environmental Research under the Ministry of Environment as a 'Safety-Confirmed Household Chemical Product' effective against a total of 25 strains, including coronavirus, super bacteria, novel influenza, and norovirus.
This product was developed by the German specialty chemical manufacturer LANXESS. According to foreign media reports, due to increased demand from the spread of the novel coronavirus, production has been increased. The principle is that when diluted with water and wiped with a sprayer, cloth, or sponge, it eliminates viruses within 10 minutes.
