Hyundai Kia Motors Resumes Production Starting with Popular Models... Kia Sohari Plant Extends Shutdown Until the 13th
[Asia Economy Reporter Suyeon Woo] As the supply of inventory parts from China eases, Hyundai Kia Motors is resuming production lines focusing on popular models. For some Kia Motors lines that were deprioritized in parts supply, the shutdown will be extended until the 13th, and Hyundai Motor's Jeonju plant will remain closed until the end of February.
According to Hyundai Kia Motors labor-management on the 10th, with the supply shortage of wiring harnesses from China resolved, Ulsan Plant 2 will resume operations starting from the 11th. Hyundai Motor's Ulsan Plant 2 is the line where popular models such as the Palisade and GV80 are produced.
From the 12th, emergency supplied parts will be introduced to resume operations starting with Ulsan Plant 4 Line 1, which produces the Palisade and Starex, and Plant 5 Line 2, which produces the Nexo and Tucson. A Hyundai Motor union official stated, "Wiring production in China resumed last week, but it is still at a minimal level, so we will decide on the operation of the remaining plant lines after monitoring the supply situation further."
Hyundai Motor's Jeonju plant, which mainly produces commercial vehicles, has extended the shutdown of the County, regular bus, and express bus production lines until the 20th, and the ultra-low floor bus and Solati production lines, which have been deprioritized in supply order, will extend the suspension until the 27th.
Kia Motors is extending the shutdown of Sohari Plant's finished vehicle lines 1 and 2 until the 13th. Previously, Kia Motors labor-management had agreed to suspend operations at Sohari finished vehicle lines 1 and 2 until the 11th of this month, and on that day, they discussed further extension of the shutdown, leading to this decision.
