Lee Jae-myung: "We Will Transparently Disclose the Status and Quarantine Measures of the 3rd Temporary Facility for Wuhan Returnees"
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Lee Jae-myung, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, stated regarding the decision to designate the Icheon Defense Language Institute as the temporary residence for the third group of evacuees from Wuhan, China, "We will do our utmost to fulfill our role in protecting the lives and safety of the people while ensuring that no harm occurs."
On the 10th, Governor Lee held a press conference at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Office to announce Gyeonggi Province's position on the operation of the temporary living facility for the third group of Wuhan evacuees.
Governor Lee said, "Gyeonggi Province believes that the government's decision was made after careful consideration in fulfilling the nation's highest priority duty," and emphasized, "As the largest local government in the country, accounting for one-quarter of South Korea, Gyeonggi Province respects and cooperates with this decision to share responsibility for the safety of the national community."
He continued, "We fully understand the concerns that Icheon citizens and residents of nearby areas may have about the introduction of infectious diseases," adding, "However, since only evacuees without symptoms are admitted to the facility after thorough quarantine conducted multiple times, there is no need to worry about the introduction or spread of infectious diseases."
Governor Lee also introduced Gyeonggi Province's countermeasures related to the operation of this temporary living facility.
He first stated, "Gyeonggi Province plans to establish an on-site situation room near the Defense Language Institute and form a joint support team together with the central government and Icheon City," promising, "We will conduct daily disinfection of the facility and surrounding areas and provide personal hygiene supplies such as masks and hand sanitizers to nearby residents."
He further explained, "We will promptly and transparently disclose the status and quarantine situation within the temporary living facility and support disaster management funds and special adjustment grants to prevent economic downturn and minimize damage to the local economy," adding, "We have decided to take proactive measures such as providing special management funds for local small business owners."
Governor Lee appealed for residents' cooperation, saying, "A mature sense of community is the best way to overcome this crisis," and stated, "We have already witnessed the community spirit of our people in Asan, Chungnam, and Jincheon, Chungbuk. I believe the residents of Gyeonggi Province will also demonstrate a more mature sense of community than anyone else."
Earlier on the 10th, the government announced that it would deploy an additional third temporary flight to safely transport overseas nationals and their immediate families remaining in Wuhan, China, back to South Korea.
