Ulsan Taehwagang Designated as an 'Ecotourism Area' for the Third Consecutive Time
Received the 3rd Highest Score Among 12 Locations Nationwide
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Yoseop] Ulsan Taehwagang has been designated as an 'Ecotourism Area' for the third consecutive time. On the 7th, Ulsan City announced that Taehwagang was designated as an ecotourism area based on last year's evaluation results of ecotourism area operations by the Ministry of Environment.
Taehwagang was first designated as one of the 12 major ecotourism areas nationwide in 2013 (valid for three years) and was re-designated in the 2016 evaluation with a score of 76.1 points (standard 60 points). Last year's evaluation score (standard 70 points) was 84.8 points.
Among the 12 locations nationwide, it is the third highest score following Jeju Dongbaek Wetland (89.1 points) and Changnyeong Upo Wetland (87 points).
This evaluation was conducted by the Ministry of Environment from September to December last year, targeting 12 ecotourism areas in their sixth year, through data submission and on-site investigations across three domains and 23 items.
Ulsan City received high marks for establishing the Taehwagang Master Plan, citizen participation through the Taehwagang Ecotourism Council, and seasonal customized programs coexisting with biological resources. Kim Byeongjo, head of the Environmental Ecology Division of Ulsan City, said, “We will fill in the lacking parts and further refine the well-evaluated aspects to welcome tourists.”
