Support for disinfection at a total of 41 traditional markets and large stores including Dongdaemun... Sequential implementation starting from Good Morning City (Dongdaemun Fashion Town) on the 7th... Currently conducted at 4,713 locations including Myeongdong and Dongdaemun tourist districts, daycare centers, senior centers, and lodging facilities
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Jung-gu, Seoul (Mayor Seoyangho) is launching a large-scale disinfection campaign to prevent community transmission as the spread of the novel coronavirus continues.
On the 7th at 2 PM, the district will begin special disinfection of 41 locations including traditional markets and large stores, starting with Good Morning City (Dongdaemun Fashion Town), a popular spot among foreign tourists.
For more thorough disinfection, professional private disinfection companies will visit each store to spray disinfectant. The disinfectant is harmless to humans, and the disinfection will proceed sequentially until the 19th.
Disinfection of Namdaemun Market, Sinjungbu Market, and Pyeonghwa Market was already completed on the 5th and 6th with support from Seoul City at the district’s request.
The district distributed 800 hand sanitizers and 10,000 protective masks to market merchants, provided disinfectant supplies for self-disinfection, and requested cooperation to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Additionally, the district conducted disinfection of 66 small lodging businesses where Chinese tourists stay over two days from the 4th to the 5th, based on applications, and plans to support those who missed applying later. Cooperation with 102 tourist lodging businesses such as hotels will also be maintained to ensure continuous disinfection.
To eliminate blind spots in disinfection, from the 5th, compressed disinfection sprayers and disinfectants have been stocked at 15 community centers for residents to borrow anytime upon request, with over 60 borrowings recorded in one day.
Eleven child and youth facilities in the area, including early care centers and youth training centers, have already started disinfection since February 1. Regular disinfection will be promoted until the situation ends, including weekly disinfection by professional companies and biweekly self-disinfection.
