Honam University Decides to Fully Cancel Graduation and Entrance Ceremonies Due to COVID-19 Spread
Considering Postponement of Semester Start Date
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Honam University (President Park Sangcheol) announced on the 5th that it will completely cancel the 2019 academic year degree conferment ceremony and the 2020 academic year freshman entrance ceremony to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus infection.
Along with this, it decided not to hold any official events where many people gather.
On the morning of February 5th, Honam University held an emergency expanded executive meeting chaired by President Park Sangcheol and decided to cancel the 2019 academic year degree conferment ceremony scheduled for the 21st and the 2020 academic year freshman entrance ceremony scheduled for the 2nd of next month.
In addition, all official events including the winter faculty training were canceled, and the ‘Aljja School,’ a freshman university life settlement support program that was held simultaneously with the entrance ceremony every year, will be conducted after the midterm exams.
Academic information that freshmen must know will be produced and provided as YouTube videos.
Also, the opening schedule planned for the 2nd of next month will be thoroughly reviewed and finally decided by next week.
Regarding international students, the International Exchange Headquarters instructed all international students individually to suspend entry until the novel coronavirus outbreak shows signs of subsiding, and directed them to minimize movement in their home countries and to be thorough in managing their personal health.
Each department will activate an emergency contact network to check the current health status of all students, distribute infection prevention action manuals through the school website, and make every effort to promote infection disease prevention.
Furthermore, a comprehensive plan for infection prevention has been established, including mandatory mask-wearing for all members and requiring visitors to the school to wear masks as well.
