40s Man Sentenced to 15 Years in Appeal for Sexually Assaulting Daughter and Abandoning Baby
[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kang Ju-hee] A father who sexually assaulted his biological daughter over 20 times, impregnated her, and then abandoned the baby she gave birth to, was sentenced to a heavy prison term again in the appellate court.
On the 4th, the Seoul High Court Chuncheon Division 1 Criminal Court (Chief Judge Kim Bok-hyung) dismissed the appeal of Mr. A (47), who was detained on charges including statutory rape of a minor and infant abandonment, and upheld the original sentence of 15 years in prison.
The court stated, "This is an inhumane crime with extremely bad criminal nature. The victim is believed to have suffered mental and physical shock and pain, which will likely be a lifelong wound difficult to heal, and is expected to face difficulties in forming sexual identity and values in the future. Furthermore, the victim has not forgiven the defendant."
Mr. A first sexually assaulted his 13-year-old biological daughter at his home in December 2017.
The assaults continued twice a month until October 2018, totaling 21 times, and he became aware that his daughter had become pregnant due to the repeated assaults.
When the birth was imminent on February 21 of last year, Mr. A took his daughter to a motel to give birth, and the next day, he reportedly placed the baby in a shopping bag and left it at the front door of someone else's house.
