Yangcheon-gu Operates 'Local Taxpayer Protection Officer' Program
Handling Local Tax Complaints and Providing Tax Consultation to Protect Taxpayer Rights
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Kim Soo-young) is implementing the 'Local Taxpayer Protection Officer' system to protect taxpayers' rights and resolve grievances.
The 'Local Taxpayer Protection Officer' system is designed to assist taxpayers experiencing difficulties related to local taxes.
Following the amendment of the Local Tax Basic Act, which mandates the placement of taxpayer protection officers in local governments, the district established the 'Yangcheon-gu Taxpayer Protection Affairs Processing Ordinance and Enforcement Rules' and appointed a 'Local Taxpayer Protection Officer' in the audit department, independent from the tax department, starting from the 10th of last month.
The 'Local Taxpayer Protection Officer' holds the rights to request correction or temporary suspension of illegal or unfair dispositions, demand explanations for unclear dispositions, request suspension of illegal or unfair tax investigations, and has the authority to inspect and submit taxation data as well as question and investigate.
The dedicated duties include handling grievances related to local taxes, tax consultations, matters concerning requests for protection of rights such as tax investigations and delinquent tax dispositions, and extensions or postponements of tax investigation periods. However, cases where appeal procedures under the Local Tax Basic Act or other laws are ongoing or finalized, or where litigation is in progress, are excluded.
Residents wishing to use the taxpayer protection officer system can download the application form from the Yangcheon-gu Office website (yangcheon.go.kr) and submit it to the district's taxpayer protection officer via email (jha2002@yangcheon.go.kr), fax (2620-4448), or in person.
Upon receipt of the application, the taxpayer protection officer will review the related materials and notify the applicant in writing of the processing results within 14 days.
Kim Soo-young, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, stated, "With the operation of the 'Local Taxpayer Protection Officer' system, the protection of taxpayers' rights will be further strengthened, and we will strive to enhance residents' trust in local tax administration."
