Jongno-gu Launches Training Program for 'Hanok Artisans'
Starting from the 24th, a Master Craftsman Matching Project to Foster Hanok Skilled Workers will be launched... Planned reflecting the regional characteristics of Seoul's representative Hanok residential areas such as Bukchon and Sejong Village... Basic Hanok theory education, practice, and field trips will be conducted... Participants will be matched with masters in each field to support their growth as skilled workers... [Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Jongno-gu (District Mayor Kim Young-jong) will carry out the 'Master Craftsman Matching Project for Fostering Hanok Skilled Workers' starting from the 24th to preserve traditional Hanok and train repair skilled personnel, and is recruiting participants.
This project is planned as part of the Ministry of Employment and Labor's 'Regional and Industry Customized Job Creation Project,' considering the regional characteristics where representative Hanok residential areas such as Bukchon and Sejong Village (Seochon) exist in Seoul.
To inherit and develop the advanced Hanok construction skills, job seekers will be selected and given opportunities to acquire skills to grow into skilled workers.
Anyone passionate about inheriting Hanok skills can apply, with preference given to those with experience in Hanok construction sites, holders of architecture-related certificates, or those who have completed Hanok education, due to the nature of the construction field.
Applications must be submitted by 5 p.m. on the 18th. Download the application form and self-introduction form from the Hanok Culture Center website (http://www.hanok.org), fill them out, and submit via email (urihanok@naver.com) or mail (103-7 Gyedong-gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul, Postal Code 03056).
Applicants must choose one field among ▲Carpentry ▲Plastering ▲Window and Door Work.
Those who pass the document screening will be individually notified of the interview schedule on the 19th, and the final selected candidates will be announced on the 21st on the website and notified individually.
The training course runs from February 24 to June 12, consisting of a 16-week program, five days a week (Monday to Friday). Masters and skilled technicians in each field will be invited. In the first week, basic theoretical education on the concept of Hanok, wood structure basics, and material understanding will be provided. From weeks 2 to 9, practical training using actual construction materials and field trips to famous traditional houses nationwide, completed Hanoks, and Hanok construction sites will be conducted. From week 10 to 16, practical training in individual fields will be carried out on actual sites.
Hanok skilled workers who complete more than 80% of the total training days will be linked to employment at Hanok construction sites through masters and experts. For more details, contact the Hanok Culture Center at ☎741-7441.
District Mayor Kim Young-jong stated, “Jongno-gu operates Hanok material banks by opening places such as Sangchonjae and Mugaewon to widely promote and preserve Hanok culture, which fully embodies the wisdom of our ancestors and the excellence of tradition.” He added, “This project aims to produce skilled workers who understand the value of Hanok and acquire advanced skills, contributing to the inheritance of Hanok culture. We will continue to promote projects that utilize the rich Korean cultural content unique to Jongno and lead the development of the local community.”
Jongno-gu has established public Hanok buildings such as ‘Sangchonjae,’ ‘Mugaewon,’ and ‘Cheongun Literature Library’ to develop Hanok culture, which embodies the dignity and pride of the Korean people.
Additionally, to systematically manage and recycle Hanok materials that are inevitably demolished due to development or new building construction, a Hanok material bank is being operated.
