Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education Conducts Regular Personnel Changes for 2,893 Educational Officials
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Jang Hwikuk) carried out a regular personnel reshuffle for 2,893 educational public officials effective March 1.
According to the Gwangju Office of Education on the 3rd, regular personnel changes were made for 187 principals, vice principals, and educational specialists of kindergartens, elementary, middle, and special schools (12 kindergarten, 69 elementary, 106 middle) and 2,706 teachers (68 kindergarten, 1,314 elementary, 1,324 middle).
This personnel reshuffle was conducted in line with maintaining consistency in innovative education policies and establishing an education support system that closely supports school sites.
It focused on strengthening the support system for educational cooperation and revitalization of school autonomy, considering communication and cooperation-centered capabilities.
In particular, to ensure solid preparation for the transfer of school violence review tasks to the education support office and the introduction of the high school credit system, the number of specialized professionals in related tasks was expanded to provide professional on-site support in related fields.
To actively promote learning-centered classes and customized responsible education, Lee Seung-o, principal of Gwangju Jeil High School with abundant school management experience, was appointed as the Director of the Education Bureau.
To strengthen educational cooperation with the local community and Gwangju-style education, Lee Gang-su, head of the Elementary Education Division at the main office, was appointed as the Director of the Policy Bureau.
Kim Cheol-ho, principal of Jobong Elementary School, was appointed as the Director of the Eastern Education Support Office through a public recruitment; Yang Jeong-gi, Director of the Education Bureau at the main office, as Director of the Creative Convergence Arts Institute; Yoo Yang-sik, Superintendent of the Policy Planning Division at the main office, as Director of the Student Education Institute; Chae Mi-sook, Superintendent of the Early Childhood Special Education Division at the main office, as Director of the Early Childhood Education Promotion Institute; Kim Su-gang, head of the Early Childhood Special Education Division at the main office, as head of the Elementary Education Division at the main office; and Kang Young, Deputy Director of the Education Research and Information Institute, as head of the Early Childhood Special Education Division at the main office.

Yang Jeong-gi, Director of the Education Bureau at Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education, said, “We focused on placing the right people in the right positions to closely support school sites and ensure that education policies involving cooperation with the local community can be stably implemented.” He added, “In particular, the personnel reshuffle was carried out so that innovative education policies are consistently promoted and each institution actively supports school sites with authority and responsibility.”
