Preliminary Candidate Choi Young-ho Draws Attention with 'Any Song Challenge'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Choi Young-ho, a preliminary candidate for the Democratic Party of Korea in Gwangju Dongnam-gap constituency, is actively conducting an election campaign using SNS amid restrictions on outdoor election activities due to the novel coronavirus infection (Wuhan pneumonia).
On the 3rd, Choi Young-ho said, “In line with the World Health Organization's declaration of an international emergency regarding the novel coronavirus infection, I am conducting election campaigns using SNS instead of face-to-face contact with voters.”
The most eye-catching part of Choi Young-ho’s SNS election campaign is the relay campaign using singer Zico’s ‘Any Song Challenge.’
Voters create videos urging interest in the April 15 general election and upload them to the YouTube channel ‘Choi Young-ho TV,’ then nominate other voters to continue the campaign. Since the campaign started on the 31st of last month, 7 teams (16 people) have participated as of today.
The ‘Any Song Challenge’ was initiated by young volunteer members within Choi Young-ho’s election camp.
Similar to the ‘Ice Bucket Challenge’ participated in by celebrities and public figures, it has received great response because any ordinary voter can participate simply by being nominated by an acquaintance.
Choi Young-ho has been expanding communication channels with voters through SNS even before the April 15 general election.
Upon registering as a preliminary candidate for the National Assembly in Gwangju Dongnam-gap, he resumed the YouTube channel Choi Young-ho TV to listen to various opinions from citizens and reflect them in policies. Choi Young-ho TV, reopened on the 2nd of last month, surpassed 1,000 subscribers within about 30 days of its relaunch.
There are also notable programs such as listening tours to find solutions for women’s career breaks, childcare issues, youth debt, and collaborative broadcasts with power YouTubers like Son Hye-won TV and Kim Nam-guk TV.
