Yangcheon District Mayor Kim Su-young Conducts On-site Inspection to Prevent the Spread of Novel Coronavirus
On-site Inspection of Facilities for Vulnerable Groups... Promotion of Mask Wearing and Prevention Guidelines... Encouragement for Staff at Screening Clinics, Reporting Counseling Centers, and Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Kim Soo-young) has taken steps to conduct on-site inspections and encourage staff in preparation for increased anxiety among residents following the WHO's declaration of a 'Public Health Emergency of International Concern' regarding the novel coronavirus infection.
The mayor first inspected the exterior of the screening clinic, then visited the Yangcheon Call Center dedicated to novel coronavirus infection (☎2620-3856), which has been receiving numerous calls from people curious about the coronavirus infection or those experiencing cough and respiratory symptoms, to conduct on-site checks and encourage the staff.
He also visited senior citizen centers and social welfare centers, which are frequently used by vulnerable groups, to ensure that preventive supplies were being properly distributed. He explained to the elderly and other users the proper way to wear masks, the use of hand sanitizers, and infection prevention guidelines.
Additionally, the mayor urged employees at each department and community service centers to respond promptly to residents' inquiries and to familiarize themselves with the basic health center visit response manual to prevent further spread.
The basic health center visit response manual states that if there is a confirmed history of travel to China or suspicion of infection, individuals should first call the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (☎1339) or the Yangcheon Call Center dedicated to novel coronavirus infection (☎02-2620-3856) for telephone consultation before visiting the health center, and then act according to the guidance provided.
The district has taken measures including ▲operating a Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters composed of essential personnel since January 30 ▲opening a dedicated consultation line to handle the surge in reports and inquiries ▲implementing sterilization and disinfection at the district office, community centers, and public facilities frequently used by many people ▲sequentially canceling district-hosted events with large attendance ▲distributing hand sanitizers and masks to facilities and vulnerable groups ▲and promoting prevention guidelines through social network services (SNS), the official website, and other media.
Kim Soo-young, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, stated, “Since January 30, we have established and operated the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters and implemented sterilization and disinfection at multi-use facilities. The district has formulated thorough prevention measures and will mobilize all administrative resources through daily emergency meetings to protect residents' health and prevent community spread of the novel coronavirus infection.”
