A Rookie Police Officer in Busan Returns the Entire Savings of a Woman in Her 70s
Report Received Requesting Return of Life Savings Saved for 3 Years... 21.6 Million Won Returned to Grandmother
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Yoseop] A woman in her 70s in Busan, who lost 21 million won in cash, her entire savings collected over three years, breathed a sigh of relief after safely recovering the money with the help of a rookie police officer.
According to the Busan Police Agency on the 30th, at around 3:45 PM on the 29th, an urgent report was received at the 112 call center from a woman in her 70s, Ms. A, stating, "21.6 million won in cash kept at home during the Lunar New Year holiday has disappeared."
Upon receiving the report, officers from the Geumgok Police Substation of the Bukbu Police Station in Busan judged it as a large-sum theft case and dispatched to Ms. A's home in Geumgok-dong.
Ms. A pleaded earnestly, "I put the money from breaking my savings account before the Lunar New Year holiday into a sock and placed it in the drawer. This is my entire savings, which I have struggled to collect over three years, so please find it."
The police who arrived at the scene searched the drawer and various places inside the house, but the lost money was nowhere to be found, and no signs of external intrusion were discovered.
Just as everyone was about to give up, Police Officer Kim Saebom from the Geumgok Police Substation began to carefully inspect every corner of the house. Another four-tier drawer inside the house caught Officer Kim's eye. Hoping for the best, she searched through all the drawers but could not find the money. At that moment, knowing the circumstances of the elderly woman who lived alone, Officer Kim shone a flashlight under the drawer. Suddenly, a faint object was visible under the drawer, and she reached in and pulled out the sock containing the money. Inside the sock was the full 21.6 million won belonging to the grandmother.
The grandmother, who had been anxious after losing the money, finally showed a bright smile.
