[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] The Korea Coast Guard announced on the 30th that, to strengthen investigative expertise following the adjustment of investigative authority between the police and prosecution, it has selected investigation department heads at the superintendent level for the first time through a command ability evaluation.
The superintendent-level investigation department heads serve as heads of investigation divisions at regional offices or as chiefs of investigation departments at frontline Coast Guard stations. A total of 24 personnel were selected this time.
The Coast Guard held a personnel recommendation committee chaired by the Investigation Information Bureau to evaluate the command abilities of the candidates. The evaluation comprehensively covered 11 verification areas, including six general categories such as investigative department work experience and five command competency categories focused on investigative practice.
In particular, this evaluation emphasized a high understanding of the adjustment of investigative authority and command capabilities, while verifying practical experience capable of conducting substantive and concrete investigative command.
The Coast Guard plans to conduct separate training from the 10th to the 14th of next month to further strengthen the responsibility and expertise of investigative department executives.
