[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Ki-dong] Kim Won-i, a preliminary candidate running for the 21st general election in the Mokpo electoral district of Jeonnam, announced on the 29th that he would tentatively postpone the opening ceremony of his election office, originally scheduled for the 8th of next month, to join the government, local governments, and the Democratic Party of Korea's efforts to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus, amid growing public concern about COVID-19.
Candidate Kim said, “Although all preparations for the opening ceremony have been completed, people come first, and citizens' safety is a priority, so I ask for the understanding of supporters, Democratic Party members, and citizens with a generous heart.”
He added, “Currently, the government is operating an expanded 24-hour emergency response system, and in our region, seven medical institutions including the Mokpo City Health Center are isolating and responding to suspected patients. I will actively participate in efforts and campaigns to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, such as regular handwashing and wearing masks.”
