Magnitude 2.5 Earthquake Occurs in North Hamgyong Province, North Korea on the Morning of the 29th
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hyun-joo] At around 9:33 AM on the 29th, a magnitude 2.5 earthquake occurred 41 km north-northwest of Kilju, Hamgyongbuk-do, North Korea.
The earthquake epicenter is located at 41.29°N latitude and 129.11°E longitude.
The area is about 3 km southeast of the location of the 6th North Korean nuclear test. The Korea Meteorological Administration stated, "It is estimated to be an induced earthquake caused by the 6th nuclear test, a type of natural earthquake."
An induced earthquake is a kind of natural earthquake caused by changes in the Earth's crust over time due to human activities. North Korea conducted its 6th nuclear test in 2017.
