View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jeong Wono) is promoting the ‘2020 First Half Urban Regeneration Resident Public Contest Project’ to actively discover resident participation project ideas in the Majang and Songjeong urban regeneration areas.
The recruitment fields are divided into ‘General Contest’ for community activation-related project ideas and ‘Planning Contest’ for discovering implementation projects on specific topics in specialized fields.
The contest started on the 20th of last month and runs until February 10th.
The General Contest targets local residents or residents within the living area and organizations consisting of three or more people, focusing on community network formation and community activation projects such as village events, festivals, and making village maps. Selected projects can receive up to 3 million KRW in support.
The Planning Contest is for implementing projects in specialized fields related to urban regeneration. Experts in the relevant fields and local residents or residents within the living area and organizations with expertise can apply. Selected projects can receive up to 10 million KRW in project funding.
The district office provides pre-consultation during the contest period at the Urban Regeneration Support Center for residents interested in applying.

In the 2019 contest, projects such as ▲Environmental improvement projects including odor reduction and by-product collection at Majang Livestock Market ▲‘Tongtong Village Radio’ with Majang Livestock Market merchants ▲Free coffee sharing and talent donation with baristas at ‘Songjeong Urban Regeneration cafe.Orae’ ▲Urban regeneration promotion projects via YouTube and podcasts were selected, leading to enthusiastic participation from local residents.
Mr. Kang Geonsik (50) from Songjeong-dong, who participated in the contest project, said, “I feel proud that residents themselves solve various local problems to improve quality of life and restore the local community,” adding, “In the future, residents are considering establishing a cooperative independently.”
