Soprano Shin Young-ok's 30th Anniversary Concert at Seoul Arts Center
[Asia Economy Reporter Byunghee Park] Soprano Shin Young-ok (59, photo) will hold her 30th anniversary debut concert on the 1st of next month at the Seoul Arts Center Concert Hall.
Shin Young-ok made her debut in 1989 at the Spoleto Festival in Italy, playing the role of Susanna in the opera "The Marriage of Figaro." After winning the Metropolitan Opera (Met) Competition in New York, USA in 1990, she debuted on the Met stage in December of the same year. She was the third Korean soprano to debut on the Met stage, following Hong Hye-kyung in 1984 and Cho Soo-mi in 1989. The following year, Shin Young-ok gained worldwide fame by performing the role of Gilda in Verdi's opera "Rigoletto" at the Met, substituting for the unwell Hong Hye-kyung.
Shin Young-ok graduated from Sunhwa Arts Middle and High School and completed her undergraduate and graduate studies at the Juilliard School in the United States.
At the 30th anniversary concert, Shin Young-ok plans to sing famous opera arias such as "Lascia ch’io pianga" from Handel's opera "Rinaldo" and "O mio babbino caro" from Puccini's opera "Gianni Schicchi." She will also perform popular songs like "You Raise Me Up" and "Nella Fantasia."

The concert will feature a collaboration with the Mostly Philharmonic Orchestra led by Park Sang-hyun. Tenor Hwang Jin-ho and ocarina player and popera singer Lee Ye-young will also participate.
