On the 19th, the city announced plans to designate intensive management zones primarily in areas where facilities used by vulnerable groups to fine dust?such as daycare centers, kindergartens, elementary schools, and senior welfare facilities?are densely located and where the annual average concentration of fine dust exceeds environmental standards.
At the end of last year, the city conducted a demand survey for designating fine dust intensive management zones across 10 districts and counties, followed by written and on-site evaluations by an expert advisory group.
Once designated as a fine dust intensive management zone, various effective fine dust reduction measures that residents can directly feel will be implemented.
The city plans to establish a scientific air pollution measurement system by installing Internet of Things (IoT)-based monitoring equipment within the fine dust intensive management zones to continuously measure air pollution conditions.
Support will be provided for installing fine dust avoidance facilities and air purification facilities, and various resident support projects will be actively developed to minimize fine dust exposure for vulnerable groups.
Additionally, the city will strengthen guidance and inspections of fine dust-emitting workplaces, support the installation of prevention facilities at air emission sites, conduct focused crackdowns on vehicle emissions and idling, and operate road water spraying trucks.
Fine dust intensive management zones are designated by provincial governors, mayors, county heads, or district heads under Article 22 of the "Special Act on the Reduction and Management of Fine Dust," referring to safe zones aimed at preventing and minimizing health damage to vulnerable groups from fine dust.
