Man Enjoying Illegal Gambling During Military Service Caught 3 Days Before Discharge
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-gi] The police have booked a man in his 20s, Na Seom, without detention on charges of illegal gambling using a mobile phone during military service.
Seoul Dobong Police Station announced on the 17th that they have booked Lee Mo (22) on charges of illegal gambling using a mobile phone while serving active duty at an army unit in Gangwon Province (violation of the National Sports Promotion Act). Lee is suspected of accessing an illegal online gambling site and gambling from April to November last year.
Lee was caught just three days before his discharge. He had told a junior soldier that he enjoyed illegal gambling, and the junior soldier reported this to the military police. The military police handed Lee, who was about to be discharged, over to the police. It was found that Lee spent about 4 million won on gambling over eight months. During the police investigation, Lee reportedly stated, "I started illegal gambling out of curiosity."
