View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] Female entrepreneurs in South Korea gathered to mark the New Year and pledged to strengthen digital competitiveness in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution, taking the lead in building a smart Korea.
The Korea Women Entrepreneurs Association (President Jeong Yoon-sook, hereafter KWEA), together with the Korea Women's Policy Institute and IBK Industrial Bank, held the "2020 Women Entrepreneurs New Year's Meeting" on the morning of the 17th at the Westin Chosun Hotel in Seoul, announcing this commitment. KWEA explained that the New Year's meeting was held to provide a platform for communication among female entrepreneurs and to reaffirm their determination for the growth and development of women-led businesses in the new year 2020. The event was attended by about 300 members of women's economic organizations and women entrepreneurs, including Park Young-sun, Minister of SMEs and Startups, Jeong Yoon-sook, President of KWEA, Yoon Jong-won, President of IBK Industrial Bank, Park Mi-kyung, President of the Korea Women Venture Association, Lee In-sil, President of the Korea Women Inventors Association, and Jeon Hyun-kyung, President of the IT Women Entrepreneurs Association.
At the event, Jeong Yoon-sook, President of KWEA, assessed that "in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution, digital competitiveness is becoming the competitiveness of companies." She emphasized that it is an era in which enhancing the digital competitiveness of women-led businesses is essential. Accordingly, President Jeong stated, "We will support female entrepreneurs to strengthen their corporate competitiveness in line with the trends of the times and take the lead in building a smart Korea."

View original imageMinister Park Young-sun of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups encouraged the management activities of female entrepreneurs for the New Year and explained the policy directions and detailed support measures for small and medium enterprises this year. Minister Park first expressed gratitude for the efforts of female entrepreneurs who are quietly working on the ground despite difficult domestic and international conditions such as Japan's export restrictions. She then explained the 2020 policy goals of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, including "Building the World's Strongest DNA (Data, Network, AI) Korea" and "Realizing a Smart Korea for the Great Transition to a Digital Economy," along with policy directions and detailed support measures. Minister Park emphasized the importance of a digital economy centered on SMEs, combining data and networks, stating, "To advance toward a smart Korea as a leading country in the 4th Industrial Revolution, the budget has been increased by 30% compared to the previous year."
She also urged, "Female entrepreneurs should take a keen interest in these government policies and actively participate," adding, "The budget exclusively for women-led businesses has been significantly increased this year so that women-led companies can grow as key players in the 4th Industrial Revolution." The budget exclusively for women-led businesses increased by 33.7% compared to the previous year. Minister Park further emphasized, "We will continue to expand support that can help business management in the future."
