However, Cho's side cautioned against political interpretations, stating that the visit was made solely due to personal connections.
According to Hwang Hee-seok, Director of Human Rights at the Ministry of Justice, who accompanied former Minister Cho on the 12th, Cho visited Maseok Moran Park that morning with Director Hwang and acquaintances. The visit was to pay respects in advance of the 33rd anniversary of martyr Park Jong-cheol on the 14th.
A representative of the Democratic Martyrs Park Jong-cheol Memorial Association said, "This schedule was not disclosed to the memorial association," and added, "As far as we know, he will not attend the 33rd anniversary memorial event held at the Democratic Human Rights Memorial Hall on that day."
Former Minister Cho also paid respects at the grave of former lawmaker Roh Hoe-chan, located in Moran Park.
Director Hwang explained, "He was a senior and junior to martyr Park, and since he had worked together with former lawmaker Roh, he visited for that reason and had no other purpose."
