Police Conduct Confrontation Investigation Between Yang Hyun-suk and Informant... Soon to Be Transferred to Prosecution
"Allegations of Threatening a Whistleblower Who Claimed B.I Purchased Drugs"
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] The police conducted a confrontation investigation between a whistleblower who raised suspicions of drug purchase by B.I (real name Kim Han-bin, 24), a former member of the group iKON under YG Entertainment, and Yang Hyun-suk, former YG executive producer, who is accused of threatening the whistleblower.
The police plan to complete the investigation soon and send former CEO Yang to the prosecution.
The Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency's Metropolitan Investigation Unit announced on the 10th that on the 8th, they summoned former CEO Yang and Mr. A, the whistleblower in this case and an acquaintance of B.I, for a confrontation investigation.
According to the police, former CEO Yang is suspected of persuading and threatening Mr. A to retract his statement to the police about B.I's drug purchase suspicions when Mr. A was arrested on drug use charges and under police investigation in August 2016.
He is also charged with aiding the escape of a criminal by causing Mr. A to retract his statement, thereby effectively blocking the police investigation into B.I, who is suspected of criminal charges.
During this confrontation investigation, Mr. A claimed that all allegations against former CEO Yang were true, while former CEO Yang denied the charges, stating that it was unrelated to him.
A police official said, "It is true that a confrontation investigation was conducted, but we cannot disclose what was discussed during the investigation," adding, "We plan to complete the investigation soon."
Earlier, in June last year, Mr. A reported these suspicions related to former CEO Yang to the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission.
