Last Year, 119 Rescue Team Dispatched and Rescued Over 2,400 Cases Daily on Average
Increasing Impact as More Typhoons Pass Through the Korean Peninsula
[Asia Economy Reporter Osangdo] Last year, the number of dispatches and rescues by the 119 rescue team exceeded 2,400 per day on average. The average number of people rescued per day also reached 273. The National Fire Agency explained that the increase in the number of typhoons passing through the Korean Peninsula last year led to a sharp rise in safety-related reports.
According to the National Fire Agency on the 7th, the total number of 119 rescue team dispatches in response to rescue requests last year was 881,990. Among these, the actual number of rescues handled was 709,251, and the number of people rescued was 99,555. On average, this means 2,416 dispatches per day, handling 1,943 rescues and saving 273 people. Compared to the previous year, dispatches increased by 5.2%, and rescues increased by 6.9%. However, the number of people rescued decreased by 4.6%.
The National Fire Agency explained that the increase in rescues in the daily safety sector affected the overall numbers. The number of rescues in the daily safety sector increased by 13.9% (48,915 cases) from the previous year to 400,482 cases. In contrast, general rescues decreased by 1.1% (3,190 cases) to 308,769 cases.

In the daily safety sector, natural disasters accounted for the largest proportion at 74.0% (8,840 cases). This was followed by electrical accidents at 34.2% (557 cases), removal of beehives at 16.0% (23,024 cases), animal capture at 11.4% (8,770 cases), and safety measures at 10.0% (6,319 cases).
