24.2 Trillion KRW Scale 'Government R&D' Project Briefing Session
[Asia Economy Reporter Junho Hwang] A briefing session revealing the main contents of the government research and development project worth 24.2 trillion won will be held starting today.
The Ministry of Science and ICT, together with 10 central administrative agencies conducting research and development (R&D) projects such as the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, will hold the 2020 Government R&D Project Joint Briefing Session in two regions until the 22nd.
This briefing session was prepared to inform researchers about the main contents and detailed implementation plans of major ministries' R&D projects regarding the 2020 government R&D budget (24.2 trillion won) confirmed by the National Assembly last December.
The briefing sessions will be held in Seoul and Daejeon. On the first day of each region (6th, 20th), the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Ministry of Education will present the contents and schedules of R&D projects. On the second day (7th, 21st), the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, and the Ministry of Health and Welfare will give presentations. On the third day (8th, 22nd), the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, the Rural Development Administration, the Korea Forest Service, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, and the Ministry of Environment will present.
In particular, this year, with the government R&D budget confirmed at a record high of 24.2 trillion won, Kim Seongsu, Director of the Science and Technology Innovation Bureau at the Ministry of Science and ICT, will directly explain the significance of the budget increase on site.
Kim Seongsu, Director of the Science and Technology Innovation Bureau, stated, "The expansion of this year's government R&D budget to a record high of 24.2 trillion won demonstrates the strong will of the government and the scientific community to prepare for future uncertainties through research and development and to establish a sustainable growth foundation."
He added, "Since our future depends on the shoulders of researchers, we will generously support them so that they can conduct research freely," emphasizing, "Researchers should not fear failure, but challenge creative research and produce results that meet the expectations and trust of the public."
