Gyeonggi-do Suspends Permanent Display of Saemaeul Flag... Lee Jae-myung "Grateful for Saemaeul Association's Decision"
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Lee Jae-myung, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, expressed deep gratitude to the private organization 'Saemaeulhoe' for accepting the suspension of the Saemaeul flag hoisting.
On the 6th, through a post on his Facebook, Governor Lee stated, "It is true that the permanent hoisting of the Saemaeulhoe flag, a private organization’s flag, on the national flagpole is problematic, but we could not recklessly ignore decades of customs and vested interests," revealing part of his anguish related to the decision to suspend the permanent hoisting of the Saemaeul flag.
He continued, "Even if something is right, unilateral enforcement causes conflict and demands social costs," and added, "On behalf of the residents of Gyeonggi Province, I deeply thank Saemaeulhoe for accepting the suspension of the permanent hoisting of their flag."
He also added, "I highly acknowledge the dedication of Saemaeul members and the achievements of the Saemaeul movement so far, and I support and cheer for the new direction of Saemaeulhoe."
