Who Was the Late Il-jae Lee, Famous as Kim Dong-hoe in 'General's Son,' Known Because of His Daughter?
[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Lim Ju-hyung] The daughter of the late actor Lee Il-jae, Go I-rim, appeared on the MBC variety show 'Studying is Money?' and confessed that she feels burdened by her studies, drawing attention to Lee Il-jae.
Lee Il-jae, who graduated from Hanyang University’s Department of Theater and Film, debuted as a theater actor in 1981. He left a strong impression on the public by playing the role of Kim Dong-hoe in the 1989 film 'General's Son.'
About three years later, in 1992, he appeared in 'General's Son 2' and won the Best New Actor award in the film category at the Baeksang Arts Awards.
Lee Il-jae became well-known to the public by appearing in various programs such as the films 'Pirates,' 'Uihyeol,' 'Gangster's Law,' 'The Real Man,' the SBS drama 'Age of Wanderer,' and the KBS dramas 'Immortal Admiral Yi Sun-sin' and 'Bridal Mask.'
In 2000, he married a wife 14 years his junior and had two daughters, including Go I-rim.
In 2018, Lee Il-jae appeared on the tvN variety show 'Nest Escape 3' and revealed his battle with lung cancer.
At that time, he said, "Since I married late and my children are young, I thought I might not be able to fulfill my responsibilities as a parent," adding, "I focused on treatment with the determination to live no matter what, thinking of my family. I want to recover quickly and meet my colleagues on set."
The late actor passed away on April 5 of last year.
