Hong Joon-pyo "To Run in Daegu Dong-gu Eul or Miryang, Gyeongnam"
"Final Constituency Selection After Observing the Conservative Grand Unification Process"
[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] Hong Joon-pyo, former leader of the Liberty Korea Party, announced on the 3rd that he would run in either Daegu Dong-gu Eul or Gyeongnam Miryang·Uiryeong·Haman·Changnyeong in the April 15 general election. Currently, the member of the National Assembly for Daegu Dong-gu Eul is Yoo Seung-min of the New Conservative Party, and Changnyeong is Hong's hometown.
On the same day, Hong appeared on TBS radio and stated this, adding, "To prevent division in Daegu·Gyeongbuk (TK), we must defeat Yoo this time."
He said, "Since all the metropolitan leaders in the Busan·Gyeongnam (PK) region belong to the Democratic Party of Korea, I feel I should go to my hometown, Changnyeong."
Regarding the party leaders such as Hwang Kyo-ahn and other senior members running in difficult constituencies in the Seoul metropolitan area, he said, "Even if they add one seat in northern Seoul or the metropolitan area, would that really help the Liberty Korea Party?"

On conservative unification, he said, "If Ahn Cheol-soo, Yoo Seung-min, and Hwang Kyo-ahn all become 'one of them,' it will be a grand unification of moderate conservatives, but if not, unification is impossible," adding, "I will decide on my final constituency after observing the process of conservative grand unification."
