KOSPI Gives Up Gains Amid US Airstrikes on Iran... Mixed Around 2170 Level
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jihwan] The KOSPI started the day on a positive note with a rise of over 1% in early trading but ended the session giving up the gains due to the U.S. airstrike on Iran.
The KOSPI, which started higher on the 3rd, closed at 2,176.46, up 1.29 points (0.06%) from the previous day. The index opened at 2,192.58, up 17.41 points (0.80%) from the previous close, and at one point during the session recovered the 2,200 level, but concerns over a military clash between the U.S. and Iran caused it to turn downward temporarily.
Looking at trading trends by participant, foreigners and individuals led the rise with net purchases of 264.5 billion KRW and 271.4 billion KRW respectively. Institutional investors recorded net sales of 545.1 billion KRW.
By sector, textile and apparel (+0.63%), electrical and electronics (+0.34%), and finance (+0.22%) showed strength. Pharmaceuticals (-1.17%), transportation and warehousing (-0.97%), and medical precision (-0.93%) declined.
Most of the top market capitalization stocks fell. SK Hynix (-0.21%), NAVER (-0.55%), Hyundai Motor (-1.69%), and LG Chem (-0.96%) declined. Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics (0.54%) and Hyundai Mobis (1.01%) posted slight gains.
On the day, 390 KOSPI stocks rose, including one that hit the upper price limit, while 421 stocks fell, including one that hit the lower price limit. 98 stocks remained unchanged.
The KOSDAQ index reversed its four-day consecutive upward trend, falling by over 4%. It closed at 669.93, down 4.09 points (0.61%) from the previous trading day.
By trading participant, individual investors were net buyers with 279.7 billion KRW. In contrast, institutions and foreigners were net sellers with 146.0 billion KRW and 133.5 billion KRW respectively, pulling the index down.
By sector, telecommunications equipment (-0.35%), distribution (-0.82%), and pharmaceuticals (-0.67%) declined, while construction (0.50%) and transportation (0.44%) rose.
Among the top market capitalization stocks, Celltrion Healthcare (-2.28%) and HL Biopharma (-5.07%) fell. On the other hand, Pearl Abyss (1.81%) and Medytox (3.59%) closed higher.

On the day, 541 KOSDAQ stocks rose, including three that hit the upper price limit, while 707 stocks fell with no lower price limit hits. 101 stocks remained unchanged.
