Shakespeare's Final Romance Play 'The Tempest' Performance at Sejong Center for the Performing Arts
Opening on the 10th with a Family Musical Play
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Byung-hee] Shakespeare's final romance play, "The Tempest," will be performed as a family musical from the 10th of this month to the 2nd of next month at the Sejong M Theater in the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts.
"The Tempest" is a story of revenge and reconciliation between Prospero, the Duke of Milan who was wrongfully exiled to a deserted island, and the fairy Ariel. Presented by the Seoul Metropolitan Theater Company, "The Tempest" uses the character Stefano the cook and his "table" to convey a story of reconciliation and forgiveness in an easy and delightful way.
Led by director Shin Jae-hoon, renowned for his modern interpretation of classics, the production features composer Johanna, lyricist and music director Jung Joon, and choreographer Yoo Jae-sung, who will richly and joyfully reinterpret Shakespeare's work.
"The Tempest" is the first production in the Seoul Metropolitan Theater Company's "Easy Shakespeare Series," which was originally performed in the 2015-2016 season and returns to the stage after four years. Following "The Tempest," the company selected "Twelfth Night" in 2017, "A Midsummer Night's Dream" in 2018, and "Twelfth Night" again in 2019 as part of the "Easy Shakespeare Series."
This "The Tempest" performance offers various services for the audience. English subtitles are provided to aid understanding of the original work, and a "Tempest Guide" containing performance etiquette and explanations of the play is available for child viewers. After the Friday 7:30 PM, Saturday 5 PM, and Sunday 2 PM performances, a photo event with the actors will be held.
