According to local reports, former Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba will visit Korea on April 7-8, 2026, and is expected to meet with President Lee Jaemyung.
The Yomiuri Shimbun reported on April 4, citing multiple government sources, that former Prime Minister Ishiba is arranging a meeting with President Lee during his visit to Korea.
If the meeting takes place, both sides are expected to reaffirm the importance of shuttle diplomacy between the leaders of Korea and Japan, and exchange views on the overall situation in Northeast Asia.
During his tenure, former Prime Minister Ishiba held three summits with President Lee.
