On April 21, GS Engineering & Construction announced that it had signed separate Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with Arie Energy, an Indian renewable energy repowering company, and Suzlon Energy, a leading wind power company in India. Repowering refers to modernizing and extending the lifespan of aging power plant facilities that have been in operation for a long time.
Through these MOUs, GS Engineering & Construction will officially enter the Indian renewable energy power supply business, including wind power repowering and the combined operation of solar, wind, and energy storage systems (ESS).
First, GS Engineering & Construction will jointly promote repowering projects for aging wind power plants in India through collaboration with Arie Energy, which specializes in renewable energy repowering. The goal is to secure a total of 1 gigawatt (GW) in wind repowering projects in India within the next five years.
The companies also plan to jointly handle project development, investment, and operation through the establishment of a joint venture in the future. GS Engineering & Construction will be responsible for business structuring, investment and financial procurement, and securing demand, while Arie Energy will manage local permits, land acquisition, and project management.

Suzlon Energy is a leading company in the renewable energy sector, focusing on the production and distribution of wind turbines. The company will explore business opportunities across India, with GS Engineering & Construction responsible for business structuring, investment, and financial procurement, while Suzlon Energy will handle technology optimization and power plant operations.
In particular, the collaboration with Suzlon Energy is significant in that it focuses on establishing an integrated energy supply model based on a hybrid of solar and wind power combined with ESS, rather than relying on a single energy source. The hybrid model offers the advantage of securing stable power supplies even amid climate variability and improves the efficiency of energy supply.
GS Engineering & Construction is the first Korean construction company to participate as a developer in the Indian solar power business. The company is currently operating the Pathur solar power complex, and through these MOUs, it has established a mid- to long-term business foundation to respond to climate change and grow as a sustainable enterprise in the Indian renewable energy market.
