Lee Mikyung Unveils 'K-Culture Vision' in CNN Documentary
"Building a Creative Ecosystem is Key"
Leading the Cultural Industry for 30 Years
Lee Mikyung, Vice Chairwoman of CJ Group, appeared in the CNN Original Series 'K-Everything' to share insights on the growth process and vision of K-Culture.
The four-part documentary, released on May 9, highlights the journey of K-Culture becoming a global phenomenon. Reflecting on her investment in DreamWorks in 1995, Lee stated, "When I was young, my grandfather, the late Chairman Lee Byungchul, told me that when the power of culture combines with industrial and economic strength, a nation attains true competitiveness."
She added, "The entertainment industry is about developing intangible assets into a sustainable industry," emphasizing, "It is essential to build infrastructure and a creative ecosystem so that creators and artists can continue their work."
Regarding her global storytelling vision, she said, "It is not enough just to introduce Korean culture; we must connect people around the world through authentic storytelling," adding, "I hope our experiences and journey can offer possibilities and inspiration to others."

Over the past 30 years, Lee has led the globalization of the Korean cultural industry, earning the Pillar Award from the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in 2022 and the Order of Cultural Merit (Geumgwan) in 2023. She currently serves as a board member of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures and is also actively discovering Asian creators through the global label First Light Storyhouse.
