Hansung Cleantech Secures Consecutive Semiconductor EPC Orders from Samsung Electronics and DB Hitek, Achieving Contracts Worth 30 Billion Won
Hansung Cleantech, a specialized industrial water treatment and ultrapure water (UPW) EPC company, has secured contracts worth approximately 30 billion won by consecutively winning semiconductor projects from Samsung Electronics and DB Hitek.
On May 18, Hansung Cleantech announced through a disclosure that it had been awarded a change order for the Samsung Electronics Pyeongtaek semiconductor plant P5 project, as well as the EPC construction for the UPW facilities at DB Hitek's Eumseong Sangwoo plant, each valued at around 15.5 billion won.
For the Samsung Electronics Pyeongtaek P5 project, the contract value was increased as additional phased orders for the "Pyeongtaek P5 Green Building New Construction" were incorporated. Since the initial contract in February, the cumulative contract value has now reached approximately 15.5 billion won with this change order.
This project involves the installation of a system to treat wastewater generated during the semiconductor manufacturing process. Due to the characteristics of EPC projects, the contract structure allows for sequential increases in order volume according to progress, the company explained.
In addition, Hansung Cleantech has newly secured the EPC contract for the ultrapure water facilities at DB Hitek's Eumseong Sangwoo plant. This project covers the full scope of design, manufacturing, and construction for UPW facilities required for system semiconductor production, with a contract value of about 15.5 billion won.
Industry insiders view it as significant that a domestic company has secured new orders in the semiconductor UPW EPC market, which has traditionally been dominated by global UPW engineering firms.
Amid intensifying competition among global semiconductor companies to expand production capacity—especially for AI semiconductors and high bandwidth memory (HBM)—facility investments are also increasing to address rising demand in system semiconductors, including AI, 5G, IoT, and automotive chips.
Accordingly, demand for process infrastructure such as UPW and wastewater treatment facilities in semiconductor manufacturing is rapidly increasing. In particular, as contamination standards become stricter with advanced process miniaturization, the importance of securing stable water quality grows. As a result, the role of water treatment EPC companies with advanced design and construction capabilities and proven project experience is expanding.
Furthermore, as supply chain stability and technological localization have become increasingly important for core semiconductor infrastructure, the significance of internalizing UPW and water treatment technology has also come to the fore. Hansung Cleantech is working to secure energy-saving UPW plant design technology through recent selection for a national research project.
Hansung Cleantech has accumulated experience in UPW and wastewater EPC projects for major semiconductor companies and at the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster, among others. The company stated that its technical expertise and project execution capabilities were key factors in winning the latest DB Hitek order.
A company representative commented, "With the proliferation of AI semiconductors, facility investments are expanding not only in memory but also in system semiconductors. We expect further contract growth by leveraging our comprehensive water treatment capabilities, including UPW, while stably executing ongoing projects."
